OncE uPon a TimE there was a very bad MoM...

Yes yes yes, I am having "guilty mom" syndrome. Today was not such a good day for us. Like always, I was trying to juggle a million things at once this morning. Long story short- I had been baking pumpkin bread and up until this point, things were going pretty great- hectic, but great. I was managing to get my routine things done around the house. The pumpkin bread was smelling yummy I do say so myself. Well, as I was pulling it out of the oven... out of nowhere comes Paisley and sets her tiny little sweet babysoft most delicate hands on the oven door that was down... and it happened. She burned her hands... toasty and all. INstantly the swelling and blistering was visible. Despite my good intentions to remain calm, I, of course was crying right along with Paisley. However, Paisley was crying in a way that I had never experienced unitl this moment. She was in obvious pain no doubt about that. I have burned myself several times doing hair with my marcel iron, and that hurts incredibly bad. So I could only imagine how she felt with both hands burning and stinging. Ive honestly never felt so awful in all my life. Trying my best to hold Paisley, find the Dr.'s number, and get out the door,we finally made it to the car (in the pouring rain of course, i mean why wouldnt it be freezing AND raining?!) The doctors office told me to go straight to the E.R...luckily its only a few minutes away. THe whole ride to the E.R and for an hour and a half later she screamed. Our wonderful friend Matt brought WEs over so he could be with us. After the burn specialists saw her hands, they said she would be ok, it would just be a battle to get them all healed up. Paisley is a busy body and is always using her hands.. so now that theyre all bandaged up, she looks like a little snowman with little usage of her hands. Tomorrow we have another appt at the hospital in which they will "file" off her blisters and boils so they can clean them and then bandage them up again. THis will help prevent infection. So, family please keep our little Paisley in your prayers tonight; she's clearly uncomfortable. Tonight when we put her down for bed she couldnt fall asleep because normally she will suck her fingers until she's out, but with the bandages this isnt going to happen. As for now, she's nestled into WEs's chest on the couch undoubtedly watching ESPN or something of that nature. Speaking of Wes, i have to add one funny point in our disastrous day at the E.R. Wes kept leaving the room a few times and finally I asked him, "why do you keep going out there?" Turns out there was a soda fountain and ice machine placed conviniently outside our room. So as for Wes, he was in heaven with the free pop :) love you wes. ;) So there you have the story of the bad and sad mommy.

That is the saddest story I've ever heard. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Mike and I will pray for sweet little Paisley. And don't beat yourself up Ash, you're a great mom!

OH MY, my heart just hurts for Paisley, and YOU! I can't imagain how you are feeling. I really hope that everything goes ok, I will make sure to remember you in my thoughts all day tomorrow.
I agree with mollie, you are amazing, but I know that anytime Grace gets hurt I always tell myself that I should have prevented it.

Farnz,

How is Nebraska? I am doing great, and yes I love my job teaching the little rascals PE. How does Wes like law school--smarty pants. I would love to get together when you come down in Dec, so just let me know what day works for you and I will arrange it. Keep in touch!

oh my gosh I am so glad that she's okay. I can't believe how traumatic it is for us when our little baby is hurting! Don't worry, I know Paisley still loves you- every mom has these moments.

That's so sad- But everyone was their own "bad mommy moment"
Don't be too hard on your self- just take it and learn from it:)

You are not a bad mom. I don't know how many times Zoie has almost done the exact same thing. I love that Wes kept leaving to get free soda!

I feel so bad for the girl! She will be just fine though. They will take good care of her. Just a tip...my mom swears by Burn Free. I am pretty sure that you can only get it in Utah. Or possibly online somewhere, but it works. If you burn yourself, you put it on (it is similar to lotion) and then wrap your hand (or wherever the burn is) with saran wrap. They say that the reason the burn gets worse is because of the air getting to it. So you put the stuff on and then wrap it all over to keep the air off and leave it like that for a while and ta-da...no burns. So if lovely little Paisley is all over the place, you may want to get some to help out the next time :) Because with kids, I think there always is a next time. It doesn't mean that you are a bad mom. It means that she is a little kid :)

just so you know... one of my brothers grabbed the curling iron, one burned both hands on a black car in the summer time. there have been red ants down pants... to see the boogy dance. 3rd degree burns where nylon rope dripped after it melted off the "torch" stick (there was hairspray and a welding torch involved) and don't forget steven's knife episode... so girl u ok sista!

love you and miss you tons!

Dang it! I hate these days. Don't feel bad, Ash. It happens to everyone, trust me. Just wait 'til you have a boy.
